Our Nomads and volunteers contributed hugely over the past year towards Golforama. Their time and dedication not only contributes to the
Furtherance of Golf funds but more importantly to the accuracy and timeous scores of the players and their followers.
The schedule this year has been no exception to the busy playing schedule that we have become accustomed to. In the past 12 months (golf
playing season) we have been able to provide 169 days of Golforama duties totaling 2941 volunteer days, raising more than R1 600 000
which will be applied to the Furtherance of Golf.
This, when compared to the previous year, has remained fairly
consistent with the days worked but in view of the challenges the
Sunshine Tour and its partners are experiencing to raise funds for
sponsorship, increased pressure has been applied to reduce our
operating costs and to offer discounted rates as part of Nomads
contribution to the game of golf. In addition, we have included 3 of the
Ladies tour events to our schedule and the African Amateur Open at
Leopard Creek. These have added some new scoring arrangements to
our schedules and some additional walking scorer opportunities.
This remains a massive commitment from the Golforama team and in
particular the huge support we have received from non-Nomad
volunteers particularly in the Gauteng areas, especially over the winter
period. This has been rewarded with several volunteers now being
inducted as non-playing Nomads. We hope to see more inductions each
year.
Highlights of the past year
The highlight from the overall review of the year was the relative ease that the coordinators have experienced to fill their fields once again
despite the busy schedule.
As mentioned, the 3 Ladies tour events were well supported and thoroughly enjoyed by the volunteers due to the fun the ladies have while
they play.
Challenges the Golforama team faced this year.
The lack of a Highveld Coordinator has meant additional responsibilities have been carried out by the local coordinators and I can gladly
report that Anton De Winnaar has taken over this portfolio which should be a great support to the Gauteng-based events.
Succession planning for all the coordinators remains on the agenda for the next year.
